Who should attend the softball clinics?

All new players should attend the softball clinics to be assessed on their softball skills to determine their player rating and proper division of play.   Returning players to GLASA looking to find a new team or just improve upon their skills are also encouraged to attend the softball clinics.   Managers typically attend the clinics to scout for players and also assist players with drills.

What is the cost of the clinic?

The clinic is free of charge as the league underwrites the cost of the fields and balls as an outreach to the Los Angeles LGBT community. Once you get selected to a team, there is a player fee for the Spring and/or winter season in order to join the league.  The player fee covers, among other things; the cost of field rentals, softballs, the end-of-the-year awards banquet and supplemental insurance coverage for accidents that occur while playing softball or participating in GLASA softball-related functions.

What do I need for the clinic?

You should come dressed in athletic clothing and bring a glove if you have one. We often have spare gloves for you to borrow for use during the membership clinic, but if you are serious about joining a team, you will eventually need a glove of your own.  Most sporting good stores have decent, inexpensive gloves.   Rubber soled softball shoes, not metal tipped cleats, is also helpful and will be needed once you join a team.

Where does the league play its league games?

All league games (unless otherwise noted) are played at Whittier Narrows Park, located about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles off the Rosemead exit of the 60 Freeway.

Who can join?

The league is open to anyone regardless of race, creed, gender, religion and sexual orientation.  The focus of the league is geared to reach out to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons for them to engage in competitive sports.  You must be at least 18 years of age in order to join the league.

If several friends want to join and play on the same team, is this possible?

First, all persons should attend a membership clinic and have their skills evaluated.  If they all fit into the same division level of play, then those individuals can request to play on the same team.  However, it is left up to the individual teams and the individual players to determine membership on a specific team.

Is there a Coed league?

There is a women's division exclusively for females.  The Open Men’s division is composed primarily of men, but women are allowed to play in this division.

If I get on a team that I do not like, can I change?

You are able to switch teams as prescribed in the bylaws and softball league code.  You should contact your Division Representative make any changes.

Can I get a refund once I join?

There are no refunds once you are listed on an official game line-up sheet, whether or not you actually play.  However, case by case reviews are made by the board.

How long are the seasons?

Generally, the Spring season is from March to July and the Fall season is from September to November.

How much traveling is involved for a member?

The amount of travel depends on you and the team you play on.  Players are not required to travel out of town to play in the league.  However, many teams like to participate in one or more of the various tournaments held throughout the year all over the United States and Canada.  The decision to travel is totally yours.
